MINOT – ND, Following our time in Oklahoma, we trekked north to America’s largest Scandinavian Festival – the 39th Annual Norsk Hostfest.  You may be wondering what cooperative objectives when could gain at this meeting.  The answer was clear to us the moment we stepped into the festival.  Basin Electric Power Cooperative and the North Dakota cooperatives were demonstrating one of the strongest member engagement initiatives we’ve seen on our travels.  From volunteering countless hours for décor and set-up to serving over 20,000 chocolate chip cookies and meals, the nearly 80,000 attendees knew exactly where to find smiling and community driven people – the ones bearing the Touchstone Energy logo.

In addition, we found time to explore North Dakota. We hit the highway and visited Lake Audubon and Lake Sakakawea for an awesome sunset. While we were on the road, we witnessed the largest wind farm solely owned by a cooperative, Prairie Winds which is a subsidiary of Basin Electric Power Cooperative.

NORMAN – OK, This week, we were excited to join Western Farmers Electric Cooperative and their member systems at the 16th Annual Emerging Technologies Conference (ETC). Patterned after Touchstone Energy’s NET Conference, ETC is Oklahoma’s co-op business forum that is built on networking and innovation. The nearly 150 attendees were made of cooperative employees, key account business customers, partnering companies and distinguished speakers. We were able to catch up with Oklahoma’s LT. Governor, Todd Lamb, Altus Air Force Base Branch Chief, Heath Sirmons, and former U.S. Representative, Dan Boren, from Chickasaw Nation.

For more information on the 2017 NET Conference, view the full details here.

As summer winds down, On Tour is revving up again. This time with immediate visits to WFEC (Norman, OK) for their annual Emerging Technologies Conference, an event geared towards bringing new tech and businesses to their co-op counterparts.

In addition, we have been given the opportunity to cover the Norsk Hostfest, the largest Scandinavian culture festival in North America by Basin Electric Power Cooperative. The event will be held in Minot, North Dakota and we couldn’t be more excited!

DENVER – CO, The “Future Generations” shoot is officially wrapped.

After a full weekend of scouting new locations and prepping talent, we decided on the beautiful town of Pueblo, Colorado for filming. Thanks to its south-of-Colorado Springs location, it managed to avoid most of the colossal snowfalls that hit the region on Friday and Saturday.

The last two sections of the shoot went great – despite the freezing temps. Rain managed to hold off right when we needed it to, and we wrapped early. We were lucky to have some amazing talent that nailed the look/feel and lines right form the start. Paired with some strong location imagery in the background, we have a strong, inspiring piece of storytelling.

Currently back in the studio getting ready to edit – we’re hoping to develop (at least) 3 new spots from this shoot, and premiere them at the CONNECT conference in Portland this May. Stay tuned for more updates and some great behind the scenes footage from the weekend!

DENVER, CO – A lot has changed since our scouting trip a few weeks ago. It looks like Mother Nature had different plans for us. We initially scouted two beautiful locations in Buena Vista, Colorado, an equestrian ranch and a wonderful cul-de-sac home. As we arrived to the Denver area on Thursday, it quickly dawned on us that it’s going to snow, and snow a lot. Ruben, Josh and I quickly scrambled yesterday to come up with alternative locations as we drove south of Denver to a town called Pueblo which is forecasted (fingers crossed!) to just be partly cloudy or rainy on Monday (we will see).

Pueblo is a beautiful town where we found suitable locations in the riverwalk area of the town. There are some pretty old neighborhoods in Pueblo that definitely give off an “Americana” type of vibe. We plan to spend the night on Sunday near Pueblo to give us a head start Monday morning.

The first part of the shoot went well today! We shot one of three talent in East Denver high school, a beautiful building built in the early 1900s that definitely has that picturesque look we were aiming for. It’s still snowing and supposed to snow all day and night here in Denver, snowball fight anyone?

DENVER , CO – One of the great results of Touchstone Energy On Tour is that it has provided the grounds for inspiration for our future commercials and marketing. We enjoyed our time visiting two Colorado co-ops last October and now have come back for a scout visit for one of multiple new commercials that are being produced in house. On Monday, March 14th, we arrived to the sweet, crisp Denver air and headed to the Donna Baldwin Talent agency to find our actors for our upcoming “Future Generations” spot.

“Future Generations” will be a 30 second spot, featuring 3 generations of co-op family, from the grandfather who experienced electrification, to the father and to the son, who is the future generation. There’s a sense of pioneering spirit in this spot and Denver’s rugged yet beautiful scenery provides that vibe. On Tuesday, we headed southwest to Buena Vista to check out some locations and were not disappointed. The On Tour team plans to be back in Denver mid-April for the shoot. Check back soon for more behind the scenes footage from commercial conceptualization to post production.

Check out this video from our time in Arizona with Sulphur Springs Valley Electric!

The lineman’s tool shop.

WILLCOX, AZ – Just outside of town is a warehouse shop in a large field with a million dollar view of the snow covered mountains.  Better have a pair of boots on – things might get a little messy.  It doesn’t take long to be impressed with the operation of this facility.  The crew inside knows their stuff, particularly the large transformers that are under surgery, and they are often brought the toughest projects in the region. These projects can vary from fix-it jobs to creating new and innovative methods that are copied across the area. What motivates this crew to bring their “A game?”  Doing their part to support the larger good – serving their community. That’s their mission, day in and day out.

Sulphur Springs Valley Electric

WILLCOX, AZ – Our last stop of the day was at none other than Sulphur Springs Valley Electric itself and were greeted by the wonderful employees who work there. These employees also brought their “A game” and it was evident that the whole organization shares a deep care for their community and the work that they do for them.
